Thin-film lithium niobate modulators

Electro-optic modulators are a key component within optical links. The optical communication industry has been adopting new technologies in the last decades, and particularly in high-speed communications, thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) might offer new desired performances.
 
Versics AG is a vertical integrator of TFLN products. TFLN goes back to the early 2000s, when Prof. Peter Günter conducted the first scientific demonstration at ETH Zurich, and it has significantly matured in the last decade.

This talk will cover the operating principle and applications of electro-optic modulators, provide a performance overview, and discuss the product reliability of TFLN modulators.

Dr. Marc Reig-Escalé, CEO of Versics AG
Marc Reig-Escalé received his PhD in Physics from ETH Zurich at the Optical Nanomaterial Group (led by Prof. Rachel Grange). He contributed to developing devices in integrated optics using thin-film lithium niobate. He is a co-founder and the CEO of Versics AG, which commercializes high-speed photonic products since 2022.

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
